According to recent preliminary statistics compiled by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam's commodity export value has reached 107.8 billion USD as of April 15, marking an increase of 16.4% compared to the same period in 2023 (92 billion USD).
Within this total, eighteen export items have reached the billion-dollar value milestone, constituting 84% of Vietnam's total commodity export value.
Notably, three of these export items have achieved export values of over 10 billion USD each. These include computers, electronic products, and components, totaling 18.8 billion USD, marking an increase of 34% compared to the same period in 2023. Similarly, the export value of phones and phone components reached 16.1 billion USD, marking an increase of 5.6% compared to the same period in 2023; the export value of other machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts reached 12.6 billion USD, marking an increase of 10%.
According to customs data compiled until April 15, the total export turnover of agricultural products nationwide has reached nearly 15.1 billion USD, increasing by over 2.2 billion USD compared to the figure recorded by the General Department of Vietnam Customs until the end of the first quarter of 2024.
By mid-April, the value of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic exports from Vietnam has exceeded 10.6 billion USD, marking an increase of 20% compared to the same period in 2023. Among this group, four items have achieved export values of over 1 billion USD each, including seafood at 2.32 billion USD, marking an increase of 6.2% compared to the same period in 2023; coffee at 2.23 billion USD, marking an increase of 56%; rice at 1.74 billion USD, marking an increase of 39%; fruits and vegetables at 1.55 billion USD, marking an increase of 32%.
Prior to this update, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products nationwide reached approximately 13.53 billion USD in the first quarter of 2024, marking an increase of 21.8% compared to the same period in 2023. Notably, agricultural products reached 7.46 billion USD in export value, marking an increase of 31.1% compared to the same period in 2023; forestry products reached 3.61 billion USD, marking an increase of 18.8%; aquatic products reached 1.86 billion USD, marking an increase of 1.9%; livestock products reached 113 million USD, marking an increase of 4.8%.
The sector aims to achieve a value-added growth rate of 3.37% and a total export turnover of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products ranging from 14 to 14.5 billion USD in the second quarter of 2024.
With the goal of maintaining stable growth and achieving set targets in agriculture, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has instructed local governments to closely monitor global developments, climate change, and domestic saltwater intrusion during April and the following months. Due to the abundance of harvested products in April and the second quarter of 2024, there is an increased need for market consumption.
Consequently, local governments must develop detailed production plans, with a focus on converting crop structures on rice production land; developing domestic and export markets; monitoring price fluctuations and food supply - demand; and promoting the processing and consumption of agricultural products during the harvest season.
According to the most recent figures released by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam's total import-export turnover reached 208.9 billion USD between the beginning of the year and April 15th, 2024. This is an increase of 16.2% compared to the same period in 2023. Notably, exports reached over 107.8 billion USD in value, while imports reached 101.1 billion USD. Accordingly, Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of 6.7 billion USD.
